If I have a skin applied with WB 5.1 the program wuauclt.exe will crash when executed. I assume that it is Windows Update Auto Update CLienT. It manifests itself at sometimes at startup as a DEP error, but is usually a gpf popup when I am shutting down the system. I do not know if the gpf at shutdown error is really a startup error that never displayed until some other blocking process gets shut down.

With WB installed, but not skinning all is well and I have wuauclt.exe running in the process list. I have un-installed and re-installed from a freshly downloaded archive with the same result.

The info from WB:
WindowBlinds 5.1 System Information Report:

WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC

Your machine supports per pixel borders on WindowBlinds skins.

You have a file mix of 5.1 release version via SDC & 5.1 trial/release version via standalone.

If you have SDC, try updating. If you don't have SDC you can get it here

You can also try an uninstall, reboot, then download and install WB via SDC.

If you haven't been using SDC, some helpful info on installing and registering your product(s) can be found here

I have done the uninstall / reboot / re-install (even deleted the directories) and obtained the file results shown. If the versions are mixed it is due to the archive I downloaded from stardock. I am looking at a format and re-install in the coming weeks. If you can e-mail me a link to a good source I will try it at that time.

Don't take the folowing personally, it's simply more of a position statement.

I am not using SDC. I do not wish to use SDC. I was an OD user in the WB 3.x days. I was very disappointed to find I could not continue using my WB 3.x without paying for additional subscriptions. SDC may not be the same as OD but I am dis-inclined to let a software author dictate how long I can use purchased software if it is working for me as is.

I had the same occur with Intuit's Quicken. When they decided it was time for me to upgrade they disabled functions in the software that was working fine for me as is.

I see this as the only logical direction for the repeated WGA verification / communication to MS (which I have been refusing through autoupdate).

First MS is given authority to decide if your software continues to be legit (it doesn't change after intial activation - no real need for them to keep tabs but they insist they need to). They shut you down if required.

Then they decide you can't run at all because you are potentially not updating and therefore not fully protected. They shut you down for your safety.

Finally, you can't be fully protected unless you subscribe to updates which they have unfortunately had to start charging for - subscription computing complete. They shut you down to fill the coffers. World domination complete.

Also, please don't take the following personnaly:

If you wish to get a link to a good source to try later you will need to contact sales@stardock.com and/or support@stardock.com .

They are the only one's authorized to send links.

Oops, that's not it.

SDC is just the browser/downloader/archiver/restorer

If you install it and enter your WB serial, uncheck show pre release, it will show you the latest release version available to you.

With it you can archive all your Stardock Apps, save to disk, reformat, get a new SDC, use it to restore your archives.

Don't know why you couldn't continue using your paid version just because your subscription lapsed. Brad has posted on more than one occasion that which you paid for you get to use - you just don't get any updates unless your subscription is current.

If you can't find it Boss, here's some instructions on making a new one

Whew! Thanks Sir B. I think someone from the World Domination Committee stole mine.

I know it's a bit over the top, time will tell.

On the subject at hand:
I have been using links from SD support to acquire my wb file. I also see that I am not the only one getting a "mix of files" installed on their system judging from some of the posts here.

Is it so hard to beleive the distribution file is incorrect? Too much to ask to have it checked?

Re-install WB with ALL your security apps turned off.
